World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

Item upgrades can be used to improve the stats of a particular item. Depending on the upgrade type, it may raise an item's Mark level or Rarity and boost additional stats.

Each item has a track for upgrading it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the following one by a set amount.

Item Level

The value of an item's basic stats increases when it is upgraded. This value is the sum of all of an item's leveled-up perks (attack magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive dependent on who you employ and what you do. This is due to the variety of perks that have to be altered to upgrade an item.

The level of an item is a popular measurement of power and is visible on all item tooltips. It is also used as a gating requirement when waiting to queue for dungeons and raids and scenarios, and to limit the amount of PvP gear that a player can wear (since PvP is restricted to a lower level). The average level of the item can be found on the character sheet.

Using the item level can help players compare the potency of gear when they decide to buy or sell. It's a useful indicator of an item's quality and the amount of damage it will be capable of dealing with. The item level can also be used to compare items when evaluating a vendor's inventory.

On your PC, you can check the level of the item using ALT, or by using the left stick on XB1 or PS4. This will show the full description of the item, including its level. It can also be located by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel into chat.

There are several theories about the method by which the level of an item is determined. One theory is that the item level is a number that comes from a formula that determines the value of an item's stats are worth. It considers that different advantages are valued differently and that gems in the sockets increase the item's value. This can result in a calculated item's ilvl that is usually very close to Blizzards actual level of the item.

It's not the only thing that affects the level of an item. The location of where the item dropped can also alter its stats. For example it can add a level to the item's haste, or crit rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher ilvl than those from lower-level instances.

Item Stats

Stats on an item are a significant part of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game uses a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the best." The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's skill.

Upgrades to an item may increase its stats. The rarity of an item determines the cost of upgrading. For instance, a gray or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare levels will be upgraded multiple times, at higher costs.

Affixes are a different method to alter the stats of an item. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. Affixes can provide the item additional damage, add a special capability to the item (such as reviving the dead or cutting down the cooldowns), or make the item unique by putting an exclusive name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. This procedure will cost the player a specific amount of gold as well as items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other rerolling options.

Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat, or reroll affixes. The range of stats is determined by the item's level. However every item will contain at least one stat in that range unless they are an item that is unique or the item is a God Roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be changed by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without having to reroll the affixes or choosing which stats to boost. Like the base equipment, this will have to be done per item and the interface for item comparison will not show all possible stats at once.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the odds of finding items, the properties spawned on loot drops and the intensity of those properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to  upgrade item s. It gives players a possibility to obtain better equipment earlier in the game and is thus more beneficial in the early game as opposed to later ones, because most players value more powerful weapon scaling and defenses over raw damage gains.

Luck can also increase the likelihood of upgrading items at the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced by using an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

The shields, armor, and weapons have the default Luck value of 40. These items can be improved by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on the type of material) for a further +40 luck or to increase the luck of the item to 140.

Moreover some items, such as the Hollow weapon that is infused with hollow can be used to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5percent. These items can be found in the shop or crafted using the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Upgrades to items are a costly process and not every upgrade will be successful. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade, or to protect players from losing their items if it is not successful.

The rate of success of an upgrade can be seen in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the chance of completing the upgrade successfully, and can be enhanced by adding Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations on the extent to which success rates can be increased and the probability of a failed upgrade cannot be greater than 100%..

The luck of an item can also influence the success of an upgrade. All items have a success rate of 25%, and each item that has Luck increases the chance of success by 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory, so enchantment glint and other effects may be masked by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
